About the Speaker:

Dr. Jerry Kaplan is widely known as an Artificial Intelligence expert, serial entrepreneur, technical innovator, educator, bestselling author, and futurist. He invented several ground-breaking technologies including handheld tablet computers, online auctions, and electronic musical instruments. Dr. Kaplan founded several technology startups over his forty-year career, two of which became publicly traded companies. Currently, he is an Adjunct Lecturer at Stanford University where he teaches social and economic impact of Artificial Intelligence.

His book, “Artificial Intelligence: What Everyone Needs to Know” (Oxford University Press, 2016) was an Amazon New Release #1 Bestseller in Artificial Intelligence. His latest book is “Generative Artificial Intelligence: What Everyone Needs to Know” (Oxford University Press, 2024).

Dr. Kaplan holds an MSE and PhD in Computer and Information Science, specializing in Artificial Intelligence, from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA in History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Chicago. He has been profiled in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Red Herring, and Upside, and is a frequent public speaker and media commentator.

About the Moderator:

David Gorn is the former Deputy News Director of KQED Radio. His public radio pieces have appeared on NPR, the World, Marketplace and the California Report.
